150 Years

The opportunity to take part in Creative Arts is encouraged throughout the school and process of making music is much enjoyed at St Mary’s. The school has a fine choir and regularly performs at church services and in local music festivals. Following the Charanga scheme of learning, Instrumental teaching starts in Year 1, first with recorders, then later with glockenspiels. As the pupils progress through KS2, so the range of instrument lessons offered increases to include violin, cello, guitar, clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet and trombone. These are provided by peripatetic teachers and incur a charge. Performance in many different forms is an integral part of school life. Whether within the classroom or at whole school events such as sharing assemblies or the Summer Music Evening, the children are encouraged to develop their skills and talents in a variety of performance settings.
We have been awarded the Music Mark of Recognition for Dedication & Improvement by Bucks Music Trust. This is to celebrate the value that we place on music in our school; to recognise our commitment to Music Education and for making a significant contribution to the Music Education landscape in our county. The school have recently enjoyed a fantastic performance by the New Mozart Orchestra of 'Peter and the Wolf' where some children were given the opportunity to try different instruments. Children across the school are currently taking part in Sharing Assemblies, Nativity rehearsals, the School Choir and instrument lessons as well normal class music lessons.
