At St Mary’s we know we need to recognise the importance of investigating, designing and making in the world around us. In their Design and Technology lessons, children learn practical making skills whilst developing their understanding of how products are designed and made. They are encouraged to use their technical knowledge, creative thinking and problem solving skills to craft solutions and products for a purpose. Children are given time to explore a range of techniques and mediums and are invited to give reasons for their decisions throughout. Across all phases of the school, children have the opportunity to gain skills and an understanding of Cooking and Nutrition. They learn the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet as well as where our food comes from and how it is grown.
