Geography

Our Geography curriculum at St Mary’s aims to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, igniting their passion for this subject. We provide a broad, balanced, inclusive and differentiated curriculum whilst ensuring the progressive development of geographical concepts, knowledge and skills. Pupils at St Mary’s have opportunities to understand that the physical and human dimensions of the environment are interrelated, influencing changes in our environment. Our teaching equips pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments. We aim to develop geographical skills through enjoyable, purposeful and active learning opportunities such as fieldwork, using maps, and interpreting sources of information. Children’s enthusiasm for geographical learning is enhanced by the enrichment opportunities we provide such as strong links forged with our local museum, access to our school site environmental area and a variety of field and Residential trips.
